TO MAYOR OLIVIA CHOW, COUNCILLOR ALEJANDRA BRAVO AND TO TORONTO CITY COUNCIL:
WHEREAS the City of Toronto is planning to repurpose 1615 Dufferin Street (the “Shelter”) into a homeless shelter; AND WHEREAS the Shelter would be located within close proximity of 6 schools (Loretto College School is less than 100 m away) and adjacent to a library which has an EarlyON Child and Family Centre; AND WHEREAS the Shelter would be adjacent to homes and businesses in the Dufferin St. and St. Clair Ave. W. area; AND WHEREAS the Shelter will cause an increase in crime, violence, drug use and public disturbances in and around the intersection of Dufferin St. and St. Clair Ave. W.; AND WHEREAS there was no public consultation prior to the selection of 1615 Dufferin Street as the location of the Shelter; Therefore, WE, the undersigned, hereby petition Mayor Olivia Chow, Councillor Alejandra Bravo and Toronto City Council to terminate and abandon any plans to open a homeless Shelter at 1615 Dufferin Street, Toronto. |
